Why I rock: I create art about women because that is what I know, even though I feel more comfortable being treated like a man. I did construction for years, which led me to over 8 years of cabinet finishing. Now I work for Julie Mehretu as an artist assistant and finisher while putting myself through school at an over-ripe age. Most of my recent work deals with gender boundaries and images of beauty, eating disorders, sexuality, etc. In my free time I run a feminist website at discharge.hydramnios.com, where the goal is to find other female artists who have something important to say.
