Why I rock:
The paintings of Soner On discuss and introduce ideas on money through a language derived from childhood comics such as Ducktales and Richie Rich. Growing up in a low income neighborhood in Brooklyn where it was ingrained that money was freedom, images of cartoon characters diving into pools of coins or surfing on waves of dollar bills affected the artist regarding social class. In the recent Gain Series coins, gems, and dollar bills fall from the sky and are seemingly suspended as constellations in the cosmos as a comment on fortune.
